Tapa is a shading logic puzzle invented by Serkan Yürekli (Turkey). It first appeared in the Internet Puzzle Solvers Test 2007 under the name “T-Paint”. The name Tapa was later introduced during the 1st Oguz Atay Puzzle Contest (2009), derived as a contraction of “Turkish Art Paint.”
In Tapa, solvers shade cells to form a single connected region, while ensuring no 2×2 block is fully shaded. Numerical clues indicate the lengths of contiguous shaded cell groups surrounding them. Tapa quickly grew in popularity, supported by dedicated competitions and numerous creative variations, establishing itself as one of the most influential modern logic puzzle genres.
Rules
Shade some empty cells black to create a single connected wall. No 2x2 square can be completely shaded. Numbers in a cell indicate the length of consecutive shaded blocks in the neighboring cells. If there is more than one number in a cell, then there must be at least one white (unshaded) cell between the black cell groups.
