Star Battle (Small Regions)

Star Battle (Small Regions) is a variation of the classic Star Battle puzzle proposed by Serkan Yürekli in 2016 for The Art of Puzzle blog.

This variant keeps the standard rules that stars may not touch each other, not even diagonally. The key change is that each region contains only one star, while each row and each column must still contain two.

This adjustment significantly shifts the solving dynamics: the small regions create strong local constraints, while the requirement of two stars per row and column adds global tension and interdependence. The result is a compact, dense variation that feels more positional yet fully preserves the spirit of the original Star Battle.

Rules

Fill some cells with stars so that 2 stars appear in every row and column. Each bold-outlined area should contain exactly one star. Cells with stars cannot touch each other, not even diagonally.
